Port Melbourne midweek team have just returned from Moama as the Champion of State Pennant Midweek.
Day 1, Kicking of their first game on Monday against Gisborne & District BC the team came home with a strong 12 shot win. Tony Cahill and Brett Dodd’s rinks lead they way with some fantastic Bowls. Round 2 we were against Seymour BC and a similar result with a 14 shot win. Out last game of Day 1 we faced off against Timboon BC and after a slow start we fought back and got over the line with a 7 shot win. Rod Owen and Jeff Sutcliffe continue with some solid leading while Alan Foote, Rick Orchard and Tony Free playing some ripper bowls and converting some big heads.
Day 2 and with 3 wins in the bank we kicked off R4 with a 13 shot win over Cohuna BC with the highlight being Jason Sutcliffe rink coming back from 14 / 1 down to eventually losing 15 / 11. With our spot in the final locked in we had a good hit out against
Drouin came home with a 44/38 win and head up our section undefeated with 5 straight wins.
The final saw us up against Karingal BC who headed up section 2 with 4 solid wins. Karingal quickly jumped out of the gates and after around 15 ends established a 14 shot lead. With Jason Sutcliffe’s rink finding some form a couple of big bowls by Tony Free and Alan Foote, Port quickly pegged back the 14 shots and jumped out to a comfortable lead and to go on and win the final 52/43.
A great effort by the Boys and also Thomas Ross on winning the manager of the tournament for his outstanding administration and team coordination.
